Senior Engineer – Drainage

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned consultants with centres of excellence in Sustainable Infrastructure, Circular Economy, Evironment and Renewables. FT provides design and contract management services for the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, greenways, bridgeworks, rail, solid waste facilities, renewable energy, drainage, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels and gas pipelines.

FT is seeking to recruit a Senior Engineer (Drainage) to join our Sustainable Infrastructure team in our Cork, Dublin or Carlow offices.

The successful candidate will:

  • be a Chartered Engineer, or in the process of achieving Chartered status, and be experienced in the delivery of drainage networks for highway, active travel and/or greenway and urban development projects through the planning and design phases.
  • have the ability to deal directly with clients and stakeholders, and be capable of coordinating with multi-disciplinary designers on infrastructure projects.
  • be given the opportunity to lead the delivery on a number of our infrastructure, urban development and renewable energy projects.

The post will suit candidates with at least 7 years’ experience keen to apply their professional skills and gain experience in a busy and dynamic multi-disciplinary engineering practice.

FT's Responsibilities

  • Leading the delivery of drainage designs for infrastructure projects including highways, active travel, greenway, renewable energy and urban development projects
  • Design of drainage networks, ponds, attenuation and SuDs
  • Lead the hydrological and flood risk assessment for various sites
  • Working knowledge of modelling software such as InfoDrainage, Micro Drainage, Causeway Flow and/or Autodesk Storm and Sewer
  • Planning and managing CAD documentation working closely with CAD Technicians
  • Working closely with other Engineers, Ecologists and Scientists within FT
  • Supervising and monitoring junior staff within the Sustainable Infrastructure sectors
  • Preparation of technical reports, tender and proposal documents
  • Attend onsite meetings with the client and other professionals
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the timescales, quality and costs agreed with the client
  • Ensure compliance with our Quality Assurance and Management Systems
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 7 years post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status, or be in the process of achieving Chartered status
  • Experienced in the design of highway drainage systems including SuDs. Experience in Nature Based Solutions is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus
  • Working working of civil design software
  • Excellent communication, management, analytical and organisational skills required
  • Experience working and co-ordinating with technical specialists and engineers
  • Experience working in a Consulting Engineering or similar company
  • Excellent communication, management, analytical and organisation skills required

  • Efficient work methods, functioning both as part of a team and on own initiative
  • The ability to adopt and work to new procedures and systems quickly
  • Must be prepared to travel to site visits and client meetings
  • Full Drivers Licence
