Location: Co. Kerry
Client: Kerry County Council
Status: Active
Overall Project Value: €3,500,000 (Estimated construction value)
Start Date: March 2022
End Date: August 2026

Brief Description

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is working with Kerry County Council in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to carry out the planning and design for the N22 Garries Bridge Flood Alleviation Scheme. The Project is located on the N22 National Primary Road approximately 15km from Killarney between Glenflesk and Clonkeen. The N22 is a strategic part of the overall road network linking Cork and Kerry and has been as identified as a location for improvement given the vulnerability of the route to flooding during heavy rainfall events.

The project involves the development of a comprehensive 1D/2D flood model, assessment of the flood levels under various future storm events, assessment of the impact of climate change, assessment of modifications to the existing N22 including raising sections of the carriageway above future flood levels. The project aims to ensure that the N22 can remain open to traffic during future storm events and be more resilient to the impacts of climate change and to reduce the susceptibility to flooding for the surrounding properties.
