Designing and Delivering a Sustainable Future
Fehily Timoney and Company’s philosophy is to combine engineering and scientific skills in a unified approach to achieve the most sustainable solution for our clients, to protect people, minimise harm to the environment and contribute towards sustainable design and construction of the engineered environment. We design solutions that serve communities, protect the environment and enhance resilience in the face of climate, resource and societal pressures. We consider sustainability alongside safety, cost and programme throughout project development, ensuring decisions are informed by whole-life impacts, community needs and long-term outcomes.
Our mission statement, which is…
“to combine engineering and scientific skills in a unified approach to achieve the right environmental balance for our clients in the sustainable design and construction of the engineered environment and in doing so to foster the excellence and growth of our employees and business.”
As a result, through the years, we have retained a balance of engineering and science specialists, across a wide range of skillsets, to enable us to provide the optimum advice to our clients on managing and minimising their environmental impact. We are committed to best practice in sustainable design and construction, through the provision of effective and practical advice and design options to our clients.
Sustainability Management
Sustainability features in the design of projects to our clients, as well as in the running of our business operationally. The FT sustainability policy is reviewed annually and forms part of the Annual Board Management Review. Here Sustainability Objectives and Targets are decided upon, which are then managed by our in-house Sustainability Steering Committee. All of this is underpinned by our Environmental Management System, certified to ISO 14001, which aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the company’s activities and develops a culture of continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability performance. Whilst our environmental management system aims to minimise the use of resources in our in-house operations, our sustainability management also looks at what we can bring to our projects in the form of habitat creation, biodiversity net gain, integration of social and heritage aspects to create not only a functional design solution but one which enhances the environment around it. To help with this, FT developed a Sustainability Scoring Tool, allowing designers to consider all aspects of Sustainability in their design and generating a user-friendly Sustainability Scorecard for clients.
