Associate Director Highways and Active Travel

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned consultants with centres of excellence in Sustainable Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management and Renewables. FT provides design and contract management services for the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, greenways, bridgeworks, rail, solid waste facilities, renewable energy, drainage, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels and gas pipelines.

FT is looking to recruit an Associate Director for Highways and Active Travel to join our Infrastructure team in either our Cork, Carlow or Dublin offices. The role will suit candidates with a minimum of 15 years of experience. The successful candidate will join an established company and will have the opportunity to broaden their existing range of skills and experiences. This position offers exposure to a number of project types within the company, including the delivery of national roads, greenway and active travel projects and major highways design and build schemes. FT offers the successful candidate a clear path for career development to a Director position.

FT's Responsibilities

  • Leading multidisciplinary design teams and ensuring projects are delivered to the required timescales, quality and budgets.
  • Managing a portfolio of projects including client relationships and communications for their group of projects
  • Mentoring and managing more junior Project Managers within the Highways and Active Travel Sector
  • Supervising and mentoring senior and junior staff within the Highways and Active Travel Sector
  • Planning and managing design work, working closely with Engineering Discipline Leads and Technicians
  • Preparation of technical reports and tender documents
  • Coordinating his/her work with other members of the project and infrastructure team
  • Ensuring compliance with our quality assurance and management systems and relevant health and safety legislation

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and Chartered Engineer status
  • 15 years post-graduate experience in the design and project management of highways, greenway and active travel schemes, including delivering projects in Ireland in accordance with TII Project Management Guidelines and/or NTA Project Approval Guidelines
  • Experience in the delivery of design and build projects is an advantage
  • Multi-disciplinary design management experience
  • Experience engaging with clients, external stakeholders and sub-consultants
  • Experience in creating and managing budgets
  • Candidate should be a high-energy professional with excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
  • Flexible and a good team player
  • Works efficiently and on own initiative
  • Must be prepared to travel to site visits and client meetings
  • Full Drivers Licence
