FT is recruiting an enthusiastic and ambitious Planning student to join our Cork office for a paid internship or work placement opportunity.
This is an opportunity to gain hands on experience working on real planning projects alongside experienced Planners, Engineers, Environmental Scientists and other technical specialists in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

Role Overview
As an Intern Planner, you will support the Planning team in delivering a diverse range of projects across Ireland.
You will gain practical experience of the Irish planning system while contributing to live projects and developing the technical, analytical and professional skills required for a successful career in planning.
You will contribute to meaningful project work while developing practical experience that complements your academic studies.
FT's Responsibilities
Depending on experience level, responsibilities may include:
- Supporting the preparation and submission of planning applications.
- Assisting with Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and supporting documentation.
- Researching planning policy, legislation and development plans.
- Assisting with planning appraisals, feasibility assessments and appeals.
- Reviewing consultation responses and planning decisions.
- Supporting project coordination and information management.
- Preparing technical reports, planning statements and project documentation.
- Attending site visits and project meetings where appropriate.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, ecologists, environmental scientists and GIS specialists.
- Contributing to project deliverables while developing your professional knowledge and expertise.
- Take instruction from others and continue to learn from others. (Requires regular supervision.)
- Complete all assigned tasks with detailed direction and guidance within deadlines.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all team members.
- Practice efficient work methods, using own initiative and working as part of the team.
- Ensure compliance with FT Company policies and procedures and relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Ensure assigned project tasks are delivered to the timescales, quality and costs agreed as outlined by the Project Owner.
- Contribute to the preparation and writing of technical reports and other documentation as required.
- Continually seek to develop professionally and to continue to learn and grow knowledge base and expertise.
- Display willingness to integrate with team and organisation as well as to understand and follow instructions.
- Obtain information required to do the job by asking questions of other team members, Project Owners or Line Manager.
- Have all work checked and approved and participate in project review/progress meetings.
- Communicate any issues impacting work completion to Line Manager. Take initiative to identify obstacles to progress.
Skills / Qualifications
Who We Are Looking For
Applicants should:
- Be available to be based in our Cork office
- Be currently studying a MPlan degree or a related Planning qualification
- Be familiar with Planning system and environmental issues
- Have report writing and preparation skills
- Be a good communicator (both verbal and written), and demonstrate analytical and organisational skills
- Have strong attention to detail
- Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Be eager to learn and develop professionally
- Be willing to travel to site visits when required
Knowledge of planning legislation, planning policy and environmental issues affecting development projects would be advantageous.
