FT is recruiting enthusiastic and ambitious Civil, Structural, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering students for paid internship and work placement opportunities within each of our offices in Cork, Dublin and Carlow.
This is an opportunity to gain hands on experience working on active projects while being supported by experienced engineers and mentors who are committed to helping you develop your technical and professional skills.

FT is recruiting Interns in all three of our offices located in:
- Cork
- Dublin
- Carlow
The role is office based collaboration, with opportunities for site visits.
Role Overview
As an Engineering Intern, you will work in multidisciplinary project teams supporting a range of engineering projects from concept and feasibility through to design and delivery.
You will contribute to meaningful project work while developing practical experience that complements your academic studies.
Civil Engineering
- Supporting the design of infrastructure projects.
- Assisting with engineering calculations and technical assessments.
- Preparing technical reports and project documentation.
- Assisting with site inspections and surveys.
- Contributing to design drawings and project deliverables.
Structural Engineering
- Supporting structural analysis and design activities.
- Assisting with calculations, drawings and technical details.
- Contributing to structural reports and design documentation.
- Assisting project engineers with building and infrastructure projects.
Geotechnical Engineering
- Supporting site investigations and ground assessments.
- Assisting with geotechnical analysis and reporting.
- Reviewing site data and contributing to engineering recommendations.
- Participating in site visits and field activities where required.
Design & CAD Support
- Assisting in the preparation and development of engineering drawings.
- Using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit and other design tools under supervision.
- Supporting project teams in producing high-quality technical outputs.
FT's Responsibilities
Depending on your discipline and experience level, general responsibilities will include:
- Take instruction from others and continue to learn from others. (Requires regular supervision.)
- Complete all assigned tasks with detailed direction and guidance within deadlines.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all team members.
- Attend meetings as required, always maintaining the reputation of FT.
- Display efficient work methods, using own initiative and working as part of the team.
- Ensure compliance with FT Company policies and procedures and relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Ensure assigned project tasks are delivered to the timescales, quality and costs agreed as outlined by the Project Owner.
- Contribute to the preparation and writing of technical reports and other documentation as required.
- Continually seek to develop professionally and to continue to learn and grow knowledge base and expertise.
- Display willingness to integrate with team and organisation as well as to understand and follow instructions.
- Obtain information required to do the job by asking questions of other team members, Project Owners or Line Manager.
- Have all work checked and approved and participate in project review/progress meetings.
- Communicate any issues impacting work completion to Line Manager. Take initiative to identify obstacles to progress.
Skills / Qualifications
Who We Are Looking For
Applicants should be:
- Currently studying a Level 8 or Level 9 degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical or related Engineering discipline.
- Working towards a Bachelor of Engineering or Masters of Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Enthusiastic, curious and eager to learn.
- Strong communicators with good written and verbal skills.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Willing to participate in site visits where required.
Previous experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit or engineering design software is beneficial but not essential.
