Fehily Timoney and Company Chief Operations Officer, Sinead Timoney and Director of Infrastructure, Beren De Hora and design discipline leads were delighted to attend the opening of the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Scheme today (12th February) with our clients John Sisk & Son Holdings and sub-consultants Ramboll UK and Clandillon Civil Consulting. The culmination of almost six years of input from the FT team through detailed design and construction support for this landmark project which has transformed this area of Cork. The project involved 16km link roads linking the N8, M8, N40 and N25, 1 no. grade separated junction arrangement at the existing N25 and 4 no. roundabouts and local link roads, 52 major structures, Intelligent transport systems and pedestrian and cyclist facilities. There were 11km+ of earthworks to be constructed ranging up to 10m in height on soft ground conditions, which necessitated some significant ground improvement works.

The project was funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland and replaces the existing Dunkettle signalised roundabout located approximately 6km to the east of Cork City with a free flowing interchange, linking the major traffic arteries in the region (N8, N25, N40 and links to the R623 Regional Road in Little Island).

Tánaiste Micheál Martin was on site to cut the ribbon at the interchange this morning. The event was attended from FT by Sinead Timoney Chief Operations Officer, Beren De Hora Director of Infrastructure, Billy Bohane (Structural Lead), Tom Clayton (Geotechnical Team Leader), Kevin Colquhoun (Lead DSR) and Denis O’Sullivan (Structures DSR).
