FT joins Engineers Week Panel at SETU Carlow
Overview
As part of this year’s Engineers Week celebrations, Alan Whelan, Senior Project Engineer in the Sustainable Infrastructure team at Fehily Timoney and Company, took part in a panel discussion “Engineering as a Career” hosted by the School of Engineering at SETU Carlow on 6th March. The event was organised by Shane Murray, Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering at SETU Carlow.
Alan spoke about his career journey, his experience working on major civil engineering projects, and what a typical day looks like for a civil engineer at FT. His insights offered students a real-world perspective on the technical, collaborative and problem‑solving nature of engineering practice.
The session brought together Engineering students from SETU Carlow along with 6th‑year students from local secondary schools, providing an important opportunity to encourage young people to consider studying engineering and explore the wide range of career pathways available in the sector.
FT is proud to support initiatives that promote engineering education and inspire the next generation of engineers!
