The Kildare Route Project (KRP) increased the capacity of a 13km section of the Dublin Cork railway line from two to four tracks.  As part of the scheme, a number of existing overbridges on the route were demolished and reconstructed.  The scheme also involved the demolition of two existing stations, construction of two new stations and upgrading of an existing station.

FT prepared the detailed surface water drainage design for the scheme.  A variety of cross-sectional arrangements were necessary to cater for the varying terrain and track arrangements.  The collector pipe networks were designed and modelled using WinDes MicroDrainage software with 1, 30, and 100 year return period storm events being simulated.  FT designed the attenuation and outfalls including underground tanking systems to control the outfall flow and store the excess volume during a storm event.

A watercourse catchment analysis and design check was carried out for undertrack culverts affected by the scheme.  In addition, FT prepared and submitted Section 50 (water course crossing) applications to the Office of Public Works for each culvert.

FT also provided the construction supervision staff for the civil engineering elements of the scheme.

The project included the following key elements:

  • 5 No. turbine bases for 2.5MW GE Turbines
  • 3 km of access road
  • Sustainable Drainage (SUDS) design for access roads, bases and hard standings.
  • The design of stream crossings and the design of environmental mitigation measures for the construction of the wind farm development
  • Crane hardstandings for each of the turbine locations
  • Site Inspections

FT’s services covered the detailed design of the turbine foundations, drainage, crane hardstandings and access roads. FT was also responsible for the preparation of all civil and structural drawings and specifications for the civil and structural works.

KilcullenN9/N10 Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow – Drainage

Client: Roadbridge Ltd.

This Design and Build scheme, commissioned by the National Roads Authority(IRE) forms part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme between the existing M9 at Prumplestown, County Kildare, to the existing M9 Motorway at Kilcullen, County Kildare and includes the single carriageway link road from Athy to the existing N9 at Moone.

The project includes 27.5km of motorway, 13.3km of regional & local roads, a grade separated junction, 19 road bridges, 3 river bridges, 3 farm underpasses, 2 farm overbridges and numerous culverts.

FT carried out the preliminary and detailed design of all drainage elements on the scheme including:
