Project Ecologist

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned consultants with centres of excellence in Civil Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management and Renewables. FT provides design and contract management services for the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridgeworks, rail, solid waste facilities, renewable energy, drainage, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels and gas pipelines.

FT is looking to recruit a Project Ecologist who will work as an integral member of the team in the Cork, Dublin or Carlow office, aiding the expansion of the Energy and Planning business and working closely with fellow professionals. The position will suit candidates with a minimum of 2 years of experience. This position offers exposure to a broad range of areas within the renewable energy, waste management and civil infrastructure sectors as FT have a broad spectrum of ongoing projects and can offer the successful candidate a clear path for career development.

FT's Responsibilities

  • Undertaking background research, desk studies and ecological fieldwork and impact assessment reporting, to best practice guidelines and methodologies
  • Preparing and compiling ecological assessments
  • Undertaking ecological assessments and surveys, from inception to completion
  • Liaising with client representatives and project managers to progress projects effectively
  • Finding solutions to ecological challenges on projects
  • Managing the ecological deliverables for several large projects
  • Coordinating the deliverables for ecology projects
  • Engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders in ecological projects
  • Delivering high quality outputs within set deadlines
  • Reporting (prepare and/compile information for Environmental Impact Statements and Appropriate Assessments)

Skills / Qualifications

  • Level 8 degree in ecology, environmental science or a related discipline
  • Field skills in ornithology with previous experience of conducting surveys for renewable energy projects or similar development projects
  • Ecological field skills, highlighting any specialist ecological expertise (either academic or interest)
  • In-depth knowledge of a broad range of ecological issues, fundamental to the preparation of high-quality, ecological impact assessments
  • Preparing reports such as Environmental Impact Statements or Appropriate Assessments
  • Working as part of a high functioning team
  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail while also being able to manage their own workload
  • Ability to manage several priorities at once will be required as will a high level of commitment to success
  • Full clean drivers licence
