Geotechnical Design Engineer

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest Irish owned consultants with centres of excellence in Civil Infrastructure, Geotechnical Engineering, Waste & Resource Management and Renewables. FT provides design and contract management services for the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridgeworks, rail, solid waste facilities, renewable energy, drainage, water and wastewater treatment facilities, airports, tunnels and gas pipelines.

FT is seeking to recruit a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. The post will suit candidates with a minimum 3 years’ experience keen to apply their professional skills and experience in a busy and dynamic civil, structural, geotechnical and environmental engineering practice.

FT's Responsibilities

  • Carry out geotechnical design to Eurocode 7 across all disciplines (earthworks, structures, foundations, retaining walls, etc.)
  • Scope, procure and supervise ground investigation for a variety of geotechnical and environmental projects
  • Assess peat stability and upland access road geotechnical considerations
  • Preparation of reports and deliverables, including contract documents
  • Planning and managing CAD documentation, working closely with CAD and Revit Technicians
  • Working closely with other Engineers and Graduates
  • Attend onsite meetings with the client and other professionals
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the timescales, quality and costs agreed with the client
  • Ensure compliance with our Quality Assurance and Management Systems
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation

Skills / Qualifications

  • BEng in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical bias or MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • 3 years post-graduate experience in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Experienced in soft ground would be beneficial, including the design of soil improvements
  • Good understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical design processes
  • Experience with software packages such as HoleBASE, Repute, Plaxis, etc. would be beneficial
  • Experience working in Consulting Engineering or similar company
  • Excellent communication, management, analytical and organisational skills required
  • Experience working and co-ordinating with technical specialists and engineers
  • Efficient work methods, functioning both as part of team and on own initiative
  • Experience organising and delivering complex tasks involving multiple parties within a short timeframe
  • The ability to adapt and work to new procedures and systems quickly
  • Must be prepared to travel to site visits and client meeings
  • Full Drivers Licence
