leeroadCork City Council – Lee Road Waterworks Upgrade

Client: Cork City Council

Location: Ireland

Capital Value: €24 million

Key Facts: New water treatment design, build and operate plant.

The existing waterworks on the Lee Road is the main source of potable water supply for Cork City. The current water production levels from the treatment plant are c. 46 MLD. Although there have been subsequent improvements in the control and automation of the plant over the years, there have not been any other significant upgrades and therefore the existing plant is operating significantly over its design capacity.

In order to upgrade the existing works therefore, and to protect against flooding risk, it is now proposed to construct a new standalone facility adjacent to the existing water treatment works site. This facility will provide treatment capacity of 57.5 MLD, with provision for further expansion to the ultimate design capacity of 80 MLD, if required in the future.

Halcrow Barry FT is the consortium appointed as Clients Representative for this project. This consortium has been responsible for delivery of all aspects of this project to date, including stakeholder consultation, PPP Assessment, statutory process (Abstraction Order and Part 8 Planning) and the preparation of contract documents. The appointment also extends to the tender process, contract award, construction supervision and contract administration.
