Gas Model

FTC has developed proprietary software to facilitate balancing of landfill gas extraction.

The model contains schematics of each part of the gas field.  Data logger downloads export the following from well heads and manifolds:

• Flow
• Pressure
• Methane concentration
• Carbon dioxide concentration
• Oxygen concentration
• Nitrogen concentration
• Carbon monoxide concentration

The model inputs are stored in a database (spreadsheet and/or sequel server) and presented automatically in a prescribed report format. The database also facilitates

The model facilitates;

• Interrogation of data using aerial photographs of the site
• 3D interpretation of gas quality within the landfill using Surfer Software
• Export of data to spreadsheet and GIS relational database (MP5TM)
• Calibration of LandGEMTM gas prediction curves
• Present value analysis of energy recovery using calibrated gas prediction curves
• Headloss analysis of primary gas collection infrastructure using audit observations of flow

The FTC spreadsheet calibration tool uses a series of algorithms to develop a locus of prediction curves by varying waste parameters for respective methane concentrations. Another algorithm selects the closest 5 curves based on audited gas extraction flows from any time period  and allows the operator to graphically compare and select the best fit curve against audit results.

This curve can also be compared against gas prediction outputs from other proprietary packages to facilitate planning and financial analysis for future developments.
