July 2010
Kieran O’Malley, a Senior Engineer with Fehily Timoney and Company participated in a Regional Wind Planning Seminar recently, being delivered for the benefit of planners and other interested parties involved in wind farm planning applications.
Kieran presented a paper on ‘Environmental Considerations in Wind Farm Developments’. The first seminar took place in the Devon Inn Hotel near Abbeyfeale in Co. Limerick on the 7th July 2010 with a second seminar held the following day in the Harlequin Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Both seminars were followed by visits to local wind farm sites, to further inform the attendees.
FTC has particular experience with the issues pertinent in wind farm planning applications and in further information requests required by local authorities, and it was on this experience that the presentation was based. The topics covered included particular issues related to Noise, Visual Impact, Shadow Flicker, Metereological Masts, Peat Stability Assessment and Hydrology. The presentation timeframe only allowed a brief overview of the issues, however it is hoped that sufficient advice was provided to inform the delegates. See below for a link to the presentations given. Further similar seminars are proposed for October 2010 in the Southeast and Northeast.
