Limerick County Council and waste firm Indaver are celebrating running an award winning recycling centre in Mungret, Co. Limerick.

A record 27,000 people visited the waste facility in 2009, recycling an average of 50 tons of material a week, and the achievement has been awarded being named Ireland’s best “Repak Civic Amenity Site/Recycling Centre of the Year” at the Repak Recycling Awards. This award was sponsored by Fehily Timoney and Company and there on the day to present the award was Mr. Declan O’Sullivan and Ms. Tanya Ruddy together with Environment Minister John Gormley.

The runners up in this category were South Tipperary County Council with Wallers’ Lot Recycling Centre and Louth County Council with Dundalk’s Recycling Centre.

The 10th Repak Conference and Awards Ceremony was held at the new Convention Centre in Spencer Dock on the 7th October. The awards recognise the efforts and ingenuity of its members, local authorities, collectors and young people in the area of packaging prevention, reuse and recycling. The objective of the Repak Recycling Awards is to promote and encourage good recycling practice amongst industry, local authorities, waste contractors and our youth. Special congratulations to Irish Distillers Ltd Pernod Ricard who won the most prestigious award for Best Member.
