October 2011

69 Precast bridge beams were placed into position over a period of two nights by Wills Bros Ltd., contractors for the new N5 Longford Bypass.

The beams form the deck for the new bridge over the Dublin to Sligo Railway, which necessitated the work to be carried out during nightime rail possessions. The works were completed between 10.25pm and 4:30 am on 12th and 13th of October. Thanks to the careful planning between FTC as Employer’s Representative on the scheme, Wills Bros Ltd. and Irish Rail, all the works went well.

This bridge forms one element of the overall scheme for the new N5 Longford Bypass which commenced work in April 2011 and is due for completion in late 2012.
