Fehily Timoney and Company Awarded Contract by Environmental Protection Agency Wind Turbine Guidance Note
Fehily Timoney and Company was awarded a contract by the Environmental Protection Agency in June 2010 to prepare a Noise Guidance Note for Assessment of Wind Turbine Operations. This guidance note will form the third in a series of noise guidance documents available to Waste and IPPC licence holders.
The purpose of the guidance note will be to provide a clearly defined procedure for assessing, monitoring, and specifying noise limits and conditions for the operation of a wind turbine(s) on IPPC or Waste licensed sites. This will allow IPPC and waste license holders to assess their own site suitability for wind turbines based on the likelihood of noise nuisance arising from wind turbine operations. The document will be targeted at the IPPC and Waste licensees but will also contain information pertinent to local authorities, consultants, wind energy developers, and the general public.
FTC has provided planning and construction services for clients for 1,500 MW of wind energy in Ireland and has provided environmental and engineering services to waste and IPPC licence holders since the company’s inception. Our wind energy clients include Bord Gais, Bord Na Mona and Airtricity in addition to a significant number of smaller scale commercial and community wind farm projects. FTC is assisted by Hayes McKenzie in the preparation of this guidance note. Hayes Mc Kenzie is internationally recognised for their work in wind turbine noise monitoring and assessment. Their recent publications and presentations include work on the application of wind shear and other parameters in the Prediction and Assessment of Wind Turbine Noise for the Institute of Acoustics Bulletin (March/ April 2009).
