Ireland - Clonmore Bridge Structural Works nearing Completion PDF Print E-mail

Clonmore Bridge is part of the Clonmore Link Road crossing over the flood plain of the River Brosna in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

It is the final link necessary to complete the Mullingar Orbital Road and includes the following

  • Approximately 780 metres of 2 lane carriageway with footpaths and cycle paths on both sides;
  • A 500m long, 14m wide Viaduct including piling works, abutment, pier and superstructure construction;
  • Approach embankments and Tie-ins with existing roundabouts;
  • Works for Drainage, Earthworks, fencing, safety barrier systems, lighting, signage landscaping, environmental and mitigation works.


The Deign & Build contract was awarded to Jons Civil Engineering Ltd. in early 2009 and is scheduled top be complete by the end of 2010.  Fehily Timoney Gifford are acting as Contractor’s Designer for this scheme and have to date completed the following:

  • Tender Design which resulted in the successful award of the Design & Build Contract to Jons Civil Engineering Ltd.
  • Detailed design of all aspects of design including structural, geotechnical, alignment, drainage, safety barrier systems and various ancillary works.
  • On-Site construction supervision.
  • Role of Health & Safety Coordinator. 

Currently, the main structural work is nearing completion with the final concrete works scheduled for during May. Attention will then move to the roadwork elements including, surfacing, lighting, bridge parapets, safety barrier, drainage works, signage, road markings and landscaping.
