Air dispersion modelling involves the use of dedicated software to model emissions to atmosphere from a point (e.g. stack), area (e.g. landfill), line (e.g. conveyor), volume (e.g. open tank), mobile source (roads) and emergency release (e.g. spill or fire). The software can also be used to model odour dispersion. Air dispersion modelling is often required to comply with IPC and waste licences.
We have established an extensive air dispersion modelling capability over the last 19 years and have carried out modelling assessments for planning applications, regulatory compliance, stack sizing and as part of environmental impact assessments (EIA). Our staff are qualified to provide a full interpretation of the model output and to advise clients on appropriate action and ac as expert witness at oral hearings and in court.
Services Provided
Our scientists use the full capability of the models discussed below to enable our clients to plan and modify processes or plant and to evaluate whether emissions comply with the relevant legislation.
AERMOD and BREEZE-ISCT3: This software models the dispersion of emissions and odour form point, line, area, volume and flare sources. AERMOD allows a more advanced and refined modelling capability than ISCT3.
SCREEN: Screen is used to analyse single source release scenarios in simple or complex terrain.
BREEZE-ROADS: This is a mobile source modelling package used to predict air quality impacts of vehicular emissions at or alongside highways and road junctions.
TANKS: This programme estimates air emissions from organic liquids in storage tanks/tank farm.
